Episode 28: Holistic Health with Danny Steiner, Co-Founder & COO of Kenshō Health

Episode 28: Holistic Health with Danny Steiner, Co-Founder & COO of Kenshō Health

The Most Important Thing

Check out Kenshō Health and Danny’s Instagram to learn more about the benefits of holistic health practices, find practitioners near you, and tap into online resources and classes.

About Danny Steiner

Danny is a plant-based entrepreneur, digital innovation strategist and investor who is deeply focused on disrupting the way we live and increasing global well-being. Danny is the co-founder and COO of Kenshō Health.

He has launched and invested in a number of purpose-driven companies, worked closely with the Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman (and other behavioral economists) while at Princeton University, and advised Fortune 500 companies in digital innovation strategies.

He is also the Co-Founder of Deep Talks, a speaker series that brings thought leaders into intimate spaces for engaged discussions to challenge our widely held beliefs on important topics.

Danny has been involved with a number of non-profits including Human Rights Tattoo, Chess in the Schools, Our House Grief Charity, and Big Brother Big Sister.

About Kenshō Health

Kenshō is the first curated holistic health marketplace that connects verified providers, students, and brands across practices including yoga, meditation, coaching and breathwork.

Described by TechCrunch as the "anti-thesis of Goop," the company focuses its energy on showcasing science-backed holistic health offerings + transparency around those offerings that are not yet supported by the scientific method.

Kensho is truly a mission driven company. At the start of the COVID19 / Corona Virus pandemic, Kenshō sprung to action to offer free & donation-based online health & wellness classes to their community on Instagram Live.

I have been co-leading pranayama / breathwork sessions with Danny every Monday at 8AM PT / 11am ET on Kensho’s Instagram. I also offer yoga and breathwork classes through Kenshō and have been impressed by their level of communication and the support they offer their practitioners like me.

As both teacher and student on Kenshō, I love the platform and am learning so much from the other incredible offerings.

Episode Overview

Danny is the prime example of an entrepreneur who is “dog fooding” his company. This means that he regularly uses his own product. He has been meditating since he was 14 years old and has trialed most (if not all) of the holistic health offerings on Kenshō’s platform.

Danny tells me more about the start of Kenshō and how they launched with hundreds of wellness practitioners. He is most excited to open the eyes of new people who have never experienced holistic medicine before. Danny shares that even under our current shareholder capitalism regime, mission-driven entrepreneurs can align incentives with both their investors and customers.

We also discuss building healthy habits during COVID19 quarantine, Danny’s personal health habits, science-based v. experience-based learning, Alan Watts & the cosmic joke, and why it's important to live in service.

Some Favorite Quotes:

“Ultimately, it’s just about meeting people where they are at and providing many different paths, because there is no one path.”

“We want to be as open, transparent, and reliable as possible.”

“When I’m at my best, I’m asking am I on the right path? Are the steps I’m taking generally in the right direction? Do I feel good about the next step that I’m taking? If I can answer, yes… then awesome!”

“Keep it simple: once you prioritize one new healthy habit, the rest of them begin to fall into focus”

“For me, the hardest part is probably NOT DOING, it’s just sitting and allowing myself just to be.”

“It’s good to be patient and to make decisions thoughtfully, but in many instances it’s also good to just make a decision and see what happens – go with what feels right at that moment.”

“If you’re having trouble finding purpose or meaning or firm ground in any of this, see what you can do to give back. And it can be little, tiny things.”
